Study with Master

We look at the masters in art history, study in depth why it works and get the key element from them. Then through the recreation of their piece, we understand how to use their techniques with our own interpretations. We look at the basic elements of composition, perspectives, colours and tonal values in the introductory classes and throughout each piece. The work we will focus on is the impressionist period.

Week 1 Perspective & story of masterpieces

We focus on perspective and composition of some masterpieces through art history to revise one point perspective and how it is used to enhance the compositional power. Da Vinci's Last supper, Raphael school of Athens, Velasquez Meninas, Vemeer's Art of painting, De Chiroco and Van Gogh. We try sketches with perspective.

Week 2 Colour and impressionsism

We look at colour theory from Goethe compare with Newton. We study the colour theory and palette used by masters in history and why their chosen use made masterpieces from Monet to Paul Klee, Kadinasky and Rothko. We make colour studies with warm cold colours and look at the use of neutral colours.

Week 3 Monet, his palette and techniques

We go through his paintings history and study the early period. We will make a complete work of a study.

Week 4 Monet part two

We go through his paintings history and study the late period. We will make a complete work of a study.

Week 5 Van Gogh and still life

We look at masterpieces of still life paintings in art history. We go through the symbolic meanings of the objects such as oyster pearls and the story of birth of Venus, butterflies, fruits and flowers as well as the placing of them which contribute to the poetic element of the composition. Also the symbolic meanings of the numbers such as three and more. Artist explored - Caravaggio, Dutch school, Cezanne, Mondiali, Herperworth, Marc Quinn

Week 6 Van Gogh part two

We learn in depth his famous artworks and make a complete work of study.

Week 7 Other interesting artists

We look at other artworks in similar period from Gaugain, Cezanne, Klimt and many more. We will also look at German and Nordic impressionism and finally make our own creation.
